Philanthropy

On founding Sparx, it was Mark Dixon’s avowed intention not to make money from the project for his personal gain. To this end he has never drawn a salary from the company.

For many years Mark has continued to support a variety of causes, from self-help initiatives to his core passions of sport, education and the environment.  He funded all of the activity of Atass Respect (2011–2019), contributes annually to charities backed by the ATASS Foundation, and he has made significant donations to such other causes as the Virgin Strive Challenge and the animal welfare/ecology-oriented Aspinall Foundation.

Mark believes that much needs to be done to improve sustainability in the charity sector, both in the UK and globally. Today he favours impact investment, where financial return and a commitment to the community are equal, in efforts to improve learning, mitigate climate change and foster active leisure and sports.
